Summer is finally here, and for me, that means one thing: cracking open some fantastic books! While the image of a beach read often conjures up sandy toes and dreamy vacation spots, my definition of a perfect summer read is a bit broader. As long as it’s light-hearted and fun, it’s a winner in my book – no passport required!
Without further ado, here are some of my absolute favorite books to dive into this summer:
Anything and Everything by My Queen, Emily Henry!
If you’re looking for an author who consistently delivers on charm, wit, and heartwarming romance, look no further than Emily Henry. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with any of her books, but if I had to pick favorites, it would be a tie between Beach Read and Book Lovers. Both are incredibly clever, with characters you’ll fall in love with. Happy Place and Funny Story are close seconds, offering more of Henry’s signature blend of humor and heart. And for a book that truly reignited my love for reading, The People We Meet on Vacation holds a special place in my heart. She’s a master at crafting stories that are both emotionally resonant and utterly delightful.
Beyond Emily Henry: More Summer Delights!
While Emily Henry reigns supreme, I’ve got a few other gems that fit the bill for a perfect summer escape:
- At the Coffee Shop of Curiosities by Heather Webber: This was such a fun, quick read! It transported me to a gorgeous little beach town and introduced me to a seemingly magical coffee shop. It’s the kind of book that leaves you with a warm, fuzzy feeling.
- The Golden Spoon by Jessa Maxwell: You might be surprised to see a murder mystery on my “light-hearted” list, but trust me on this one! This book is an absolute breeze. It’s set at a reality baking show at a stunning estate in Vermont, where a few mysterious deaths occur among the participants. It’s cozy, intriguing, and a perfect escape without being too heavy.
- The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren: This book seems to elicit strong reactions – people either love it or hate it! I can admit that it’s not entirely realistic, but I also think summer reads often require a bit of a suspension of belief. I wish the main character had more unique personality traits, but I’m a sucker for a good fake dating/marriage trope, and this one delivers on the fun.
